Wolchulsan Sanseongdae Ridge Hiking Tour
A dramatic ridge traverse across Korea's most striking granite peaks.
Tour Overview
The Experience
Wolchulsan is one of Korea's most dramatic mountain landscapes — a chain of rugged granite peaks that rises sharply above the surrounding plains of Yeongam, in the country's southwest. Its bare rock summits and open ridges make it a favorite among hikers who want big views and real exposure.
The Sanseongdae route offers an exciting ridge hike along exposed granite scenery, with panoramic viewpoints and constantly changing views as you climb toward Cheonhwangbong, the highest summit of Wolchulsan at 809 m.
After the summit, the route continues through another side of the mountain toward Baramjae and Gujeongbong, combining dramatic rock formations, sweeping mountain scenery and a touch of cultural heritage at the Rock-carved Buddha before descending toward Daedongje — a rewarding point-to-point traverse rather than an out-and-back.
