Seoul Hiking – Bugaksan & Inwangsan

SeoulFull DayModerate

Overview

This full-day, moderate hike links two of Seoul's fortress-wall mountains — Bugaksan and Inwangsan — in a single hiking-and-cultural day that weaves through some of the capital's oldest neighborhoods. The route travels from Bukchon, up and over Bugaksan, down through Buam-dong, up Inwangsan, and finishes in Seochon — pairing mountain ridges and old city walls with quiet village streets in the heart of Seoul. With a private guide handling navigation and pace, you get the story behind the fortress walls and neighborhoods along the way — a true Seoul mountain experience that begins and ends in the city.

Bukhansan National Park rises directly from Seoul, combining granite peaks, forested valleys, historic fortress gates and sweeping views over the city. Its highest summit, Baegundae (836.5 m), offers one of the finest mountain panoramas in the capital. Depending on your available time, fitness level and hiking experience, you can choose between two routes. Your guide can also recommend the most suitable option based on the weather and trail conditions. [Ui-dong Route] A balanced summit hike through forest trails and fortress gates, passing Daedongmun and Yongammun before reaching Mangyeongdae and Baegundae. The return follows Harujae to Ui-dong. Approx. 10–12 km | 5-6 hours | Moderately Strenuous [Bukhansanseong Fortress Route] A longer and more demanding route beginning at Bukhansanseong Entrance. It follows the dramatic Uisang Ridge through Daenammun and Daedongmun to Baegundae, then descends via Daedongsa. Approx. 13–15 km | 7-8 hours | Strenuous Both options are private guided hikes, allowing the pace and rest stops to be adjusted to the group.
